In the digital realm, however, the signal chain is a fragile ecosystem of sample rates, buffer sizes, plugin instances, and MIDI clock signals. Start with the guitar itself: fresh batteries for active pickups, a secure strap, and a cable known to be quiet and reliable. Next, verify the audio interface’s connection—USB or Thunderbolt—and ensure it is recognized by the operating system. Check that the interface’s input gain is set conservatively; digital clipping is unforgiving, and leaving at least 12 dB of headroom preserves transient detail. Finally, confirm that the monitor speakers or headphones are active and that the direct monitoring path is engaged if needed.
